The worth of a mom
A few weeks ago, I was making hot oatmeal for the kiddos before school. I wanted them to appreciate what I had done, for I had saved the leftover small amount of brown sugar for them, when I would have really liked it for myself. Like so many things moms do for their kids, it is no big deal, we are well used to all the small sacrifices here and there :-), but as we go through their days, whatever the blessing is that they are experiencing, I want them to see that this is a positive. So I mentioned that I saved it for them and purposefully left aside for them the brown sugar to sprinkle on it, just enough brown sugar for two people. "Thanks, Mom" I heard.
"No problem, just part of bring a mom," I smiled at them from across the kitchen.
"Oh, I never want to be a mom," exclaimed my oldest.
"Why???! I love being a Mom. It's the most wonderful thing in the whole world." I replied, implying there is a lot more to the joy of being a mom than self sacrificing.
"No it's not!!!" they both replied, quite emphatically and in unison.
Well, I gave up. It was obvious that I was not going to make any headway there!
