Be prepared, be prepared

Matt has been pestering me about batteries for his new Bakugan toothbrush. It came with batteries, but he wants to have spares. From a misunderstanding of the packaging, he thought that "2x" batteries meant it needed a mysterious type XX. He has been asking me over and over if we have any XX batteries, and I have told him I was sure there was no such type. He asked me again this morning, and I told him we didn't even need new batteries yet (he's had it two days). His reply was "Yeah, but I want to be prepared, like the goat in Hoodwinked!" (If you haven't seen Hoodwinked!, there is a goat that sings a song about being prepared, which is pretty funny.)

Unique

I was taking Matt, Drew and Matthew Heinstein to school last week, when Matthew started talking about his great grandmother. He calls her "Oma," which is a term Matt had never heard. Matt made it clear he thought the name was odd, but Matthew would have none of it. He told Matty, "Don't make fun of her name, because 'Oma' is a great name!" There was a pause, and Matt replied, "Well, it's…unique…" The way Matt said that dripped with insincerity, and I could hardly believe Matt had said that. Drew and I both got a laugh out of it, but Matthew did not seem to take offense.
