(Mary) Drew had a friend over today and I was resting on the couch for a few, when he came in and announced 'Mommy, I can touch the inside of my eye!' and not a moment passed when his pal Bethany said the same! 'I can too!!' So we talked about that.
I was resting again, (yes, that hcg hormone is still affecting me) and John had just gotten home and he and Drew were talking. John told him to do something and he asked me if he had to do it. So I told him to do it and told him that when I amlaying down John is in charge. He noticed that John also was sleepy and was resting his eyes also. 'Daddy's sleeping also' so I notified him that Rory was in charge when we are both resting! A few minutes passed by then he later said 'I think that when you are both sleeping *I* am in charge of Rory!'
He had a babysitter come to play for a bit this afternoon while I got some housework done and had an accident while she was here, an accident of the messy kind. He was mortified that she would find out. He has never before shown such embarrassment. he even left her and came and found me in the basement, storing the woolens, to help him so he wouldn't have to face her. He worried outloud how he was nervous about her finding out, since she would find him in his pj's, after cleaning up.
It wasn't the only time today he was embarrassed. We were leaving Bethany's home and I kissed him in the driveway and he said something like 'oh, you embarrass me' so we talked about it. He also asked if he hurt my feelings. Sweet!

(mary) Sunday am Drew had crawled into bed with us. John and I must have been talking of our upcoming trip to Spain when I was talking to Drew about some of the neat things he may do with Gramma and Granpa. He said 'I wish you were going to Spain today so Gramma and Granpa could come today.' That sure made me feel good knowing he was ready to spend the week and a half with them. He is already talking about wanting to go to the beach with them.
(Mary) Last week Drew and I were crusing down 101A, one of the main drags in our new town, a shopping district with lots of stores and fast food restaurants. We happened to be passing close to Taco Bell, one of our favorites, as I have come to crave the shell-less taco salad and he likes the cheese quesadilla. He saw it and asked if we could eat out tonight. I replied that I was pretty tired and jsut wanted to be home curled up on a sofa, the way the hormones were affecting me lately. I also gave him the excuse that I didn't have 'real money' - only credit cards, knowing that this Taco Bell only takes cash. He replied very quickly that 'Don't worry, Mommy, we can go home and raid my piggy bank'. Boy I was touched that he wanted to treat us to dinner. We will make a point of going soon. Lately after 5:30 at night I am nearly unconscious and it is hard to even remain sitting upright. Wow, I CANNOT WAIT til this trimester is over!! I am seriously feeling like an invalid some days.
A few days ago Drew and John were playing with John's childhood Legos together and John reminded him that after the baby is born we will have to be very careful about picking up the tiny Lego pieces particularly(choking hazards) but also the large ones. Drew replied something like 'that is one reason I don't want the baby around - having to do that.' But we feel it is important to let him express his feelings, so we hear him out. Soon I am going to sign him up for an older sibling class.
It has been very rainy and cold this week, after having 95 degree weather about 2.5 weeks ago. I am afraid winter is just hanging around way too long! Even my bones are getting chilled now, I am sure of it. Last night we had a fire in the fireplace and candles to warm up the house and it just what the dr. ordered. We had gotten marshmallows and chocolate and graham crackers on the way home from church and sure enjoyed the smores. Drew knows Buzz called them shmo's in Toy Story, so that is what he calls them. Either way, they were yummy.

As Drew and I arrived home from the store today, I opened his car door and watched him pretend to be asleep. so I went along with this game and mutered to myself about how precious he looks while he sleeps. He was enjoying this and let me carry him inside the house. As we went in it was apparent he was 'waking up' and and I put him down, since I had to get the groceries. He was disappointed and burst out crying. When I asked him what was the matter, he cried about how sad it was going to be when he grows up and I can no longer carry him. He was just heartbroken, simply devastated.
Drew was out playing with his pal and neighbor Ethan yesterday when Ethan invited him to play in their yard. His mom, my friend Ann, came by to ask if they could play indoors after a while. I said sure, and that we would be over soon to join them. I guess Drew did not hear me, for when John and I showed up at their home to join inthe playtime, he was devastated. He thought that because we showed up, that we were there to take him home.
When we were watching Magic School Bus this am, Drew heard Ms. Frizzle speak of the richness of knowledge or something like that. he got a serious look on his face like he was pondering this,a dn he replied that 'the rich should give some of their money to the needy ones'. He sure is developing a social conscience.
We were watching Croc Files this evening on TV's Animal Planet and he saw a scene where some poison was put out in certain areas where dingos go to attempt to control some of the population from kiling some of the farm animals. The poison isn't breed selective, though, and unfortunately, a fox was found dead in the desert and was caught on film. Drew asked if it was dead and wept. Boy, he was profoundly sad.

(mary) Boy, neither John or I have entered an entry for about 3 weeks. Definitely testament to an overwhelming busy three weeks, which I have every hope will be slowing down. Yeah!!! I have spent the better part of the past two months trying to endure the overwhelming tired feelings of passing out, at any time of day, from the very powerful hormone of pregnancy, hcg. I feel the most accurate term for how I have been feeling recently is 'going through my days unconsciously.' It has been almost comical how strong the feeling of passing out is. Many nights John invites us out to dinner with him, to meet him after work, but I just do not hve the energy to sit upright in a chair for that long.
Yesterday was a special day in preschool for Drew, called 'Special Person' Day. Each student is to invite a special person to him/her in to experience the day with the student. Drew has been specially bonding with John lately so I really hoped John would be able to go, but we were only given two days notice and it wasn't possible. So Drew asked me to be his special person. Many kids had relatives there. It was fun for me to have Drew show me around and do all his favorite activities with me, but also to spend a bit of time (I do mean a 'bit', for his class is only 2.5 hrs long) with the moms and dads. He showed me a bean plant he has watched grow from a seed, to a seedling, to a booming plant and then brought home. We played a game at the computer and read a book from the 'library' and a girl without a special person sat down and listened too. She was darling. About an hour before class ended her daddy was able to come! Boy, was she elated.
Drew kept asking if I was leaving. I remembered why he kept asking - I had told him ahead of time that if I got really tired I may have to leave. Luckily I did not! Thank God, for I could see what it meant to him to have me there, along with the rest of the kids. So I kept finding if I walked away for a drink, or to set down my camera or what have you, he never failed to ask if I was leaving. When we were walking home he reached down and picked up a dandelion and gave me saying, "This is for you for being my special person." What a special moment!
Some friends of ours are renting a wood splitter to split wood today and are having a 'party' to enlist help so I think we will go on over. Then Drew has a birthday party later, beginning at a fire house! That should be different. Then back to the boy's home for cake, ice cream and pi~nata.
