sick? yeah, right......
I felt just awful last week. Matty was misbehaving of some sort, so I gave him my favorite kind of punishment - writing lines, as Drew's teachers would say. I told him to write a given sentence five times. Now he has just learned to write in cursive, so writing something 5x is a lot! I learned five years ago what a super punishment this is, for Drew hated to 'write lines'. Drew would just laugh at having to write something 5x. Now it hadn't been about 10 seconds before Matty said he was feeling sick, so I thought nothing of it. It is nothing for the kids to feel sick once they have received a punishment. I didn't frankly believe him and I winked at John when he said he didn't feel well, so I had him sit down at the table and write his given sentence 5x. Well, he said he felt worse so I directed him to lie down in his loft. On the way to his bed he vomited. Wow, did I ever feel awful. Not believing my darling six year old when he is sick to his stomach.

Bleeding heart
Well, we have known for quite some time now that Drew has a heart bigger than most people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. he has actually brought home injured birds, and injured insects a lot and even injured lizards. (Although I remember in NH he accidentally caused the lizard he was holding to break, out of his own nervousness!) But Drew's heart grew even bigger this week, we saw a few times. I made scrambled eggs a couple times this week before school for the children and was seeing them off to Natalie's across the street. Drew was waiting on the front step. As I walked out front with him he chastised me for using canola oil spray on the pan. "Mom, don't let me see you using canola oil again! Don't; you know it destroys the orangutan's habitat?" I spoke with John about that later on and we realized he meant palm oils destroy monkey habitat, but not canola oil. I will have to tell Drew. In any case, he didn't mean to be disrespectful and hardly ever talks to me in such an intense manner, I admired he was looking out for the world around him. (We had read at the Phx zoo about how the demand for palm oils is destroying money habitat.)
This week the sixth. seventh and eighth graders were holding a competition between the grades to see whihc grade would contribute the msot canned goods to the canned good drive benefitting Joy Junction, a shelter that does a lot of good for the community. I had given Drew some goods to take in the day before. Now it was getting extremely close between 6th and 8th grades, about 1100 cans each, roughly. It is getting so intense the competition that the principal has emailed the parents on Wednesday night to update us so we can further this in two more days this week. I found Drew climbing up on the counter into the cupboards last night, saying "Mom, we need many more canned goods fort he food drive. Now there is no way you need all this stuff" (peering into my cupboards full of 100s of canned goods). WEll, he was right, and we could do without many of them and I admired him for taking this human need so seriously, I wanted to reward his goodwill in a large way. He is really doing it for the right reasons, though I know he is eager to win (the grade wins a crazy hat day) the competition, he is even more eager to help needy folks. h e told us excitedly taht one child brought in canned goods in a suitcase, and that inspired me. So I got out a suitcase, and filled it. WE have 100s of cans, we sure won't miss them. Such a good cause.......
