10-25-08 REAL wives don't do that!
Years ago, Drew declared this day for each year from now on, to be named marshmallow roasting Day. I wonder if it was on account of the party at the cousins of the Rose kids' home at night having a big bonfire roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. That was just an event so nice, it remains in our memories. It's not that we knew the neighbors very well or had good dear friends there, but we felt like a neighborhood since the whole neighborhood was there, under the giant, humongous ponderosa pines, under the stars on that chilly October New England night, enjoying the first and talk with neighbors. Quite a memory.
Anyhow, this morning over a leisurely Saturday morning breakfast, we were relaxing and Drew was reading a favorite library book, the Rejected Far Side cartoons. Quite a few over the years were rejected by the publisher for various reasons boiling down to not being suitable for public reading. They were pretty funny nonetheless He was laughing his way through it for days, constant laughter. He asked me what polygamy is and I replied telling him and remarking that it doesn't happen anymore unless you live in TX or UT. He replied that it is just "WRONG" indignantly. I asked him if he would like to have more than one wife and he replied without hesitating, "NO WAY!! THEN THERE WOULD BE TWO WIVES YELLING AT ME ALL THE TIME TO CLEAN THIS UP, AND CLEAN THAT UP!" I laughed and told him that wives are more than just to remind you to clean up, a lot more. If only he would just clean up after himself without being told, then the wives would have nothing to complain about and would only say pleasantries all day long. Like "Drew, let me get you some tea" or "Drew, let me rub your feet" and "Drew, how about if I get your slippers for you, you hardworking man." And he quickly replied "REAL wives don't say stuff like that!" Guess he has a negative impression of wives from me…
